Interfaith Week Tournament A Success

Surrey FA’s Youth Forum delivered a 5 a-side Inter-Faith Football Tournament on Saturday 18th November at Carshalton Athletic FC during Inter-Faith Week.

The tournament was run to encourage young adult players from a range of different faiths to take part in football in a friendly environment, and was supported by The Inter Faith Youth Trust and Palace for Life Foundation.

The Youth Forum welcomed three teams and around 20 players down to the tournament in the pouring rain and cold, but it was a thoroughly enjoyable day for all involved despite the weather. The teams involved in the tournament were from Kingston University’s Hindu and Tamil Societies, Ahmadiyya Muslim Group and a Muslim team from Two Touch Football Academy.

The teams took part in a round robin tournament before then taking part in a second round robin event after mixing the teams up to play together. The four newly formed teams had to quickly decide on a team name and agree on positions with players they had never met before to play another 3 matches. Players also won tickets to attend the Premier League match between Crystal Palace v Stoke on Saturday 25th November.

The Youth Forum (currently consisting of 12 members) help support Surrey FA with delivering projects and events as well as ensuring that young people in Surrey get the opportunity to have their say. So far this season, they have delivered a Coaching Workshop in October Half Term to some of our younger members of the Young Leaders Development Programme and have now delivered the Inter-Faith Week Event with a number of other projects on the horizon.
