Surrey FA launches armband initiative for U18 Referees
As part of our ongoing for support for referees in Surrey, we are pleased to launch our under 18 armband initiative, which will help identify and protect referees that are under the age of 18 and subject to the children’s safeguarding legislation.
The new initiative is a visual reminder for players, managers, team officials, parents, spectators, and all those involved in the game. Football is a fun environment for all involved and this includes referees, all of whom are continuously learning and developing their skills as a referee.
Craig Hicks, Referee Development Officer at Surrey FA, said:
“We feel that now is an important time to update our under 18 referee initiative. At grassroots level we want to encourage more people toward refereeing and while doing so look to reinforce a safe and respectful space for them to develop.
By clearly identifying a referee under 18 years of age, we expect all those involved at the game to show respect, protect, and encourage them in what at times can be challenging role.”
All new referees under the age of 18 will be provided with an armband during their FA Referee course. Current referees under the age of 18 can order their armband by contacting the Referee Development team at Surrey FA.
