Women's Walking Football Showcase

Meadowbank hosted the second edition of the Women's Walking Football Series

On Sunday, 15th January, Surrey FA hosted part two of their four-part showcase series, highlighting the incredible range of women's walking football across the County.

The event was a great success, with 56 players taking part, 12 of which were brand new to football, having never played before.

Our mission with these events is not only to create a fun, safe opportunity for women to enjoy walking football but to highlight to clubs across Surrey that the demand is there for women wanting to play. Unfortunately, there is currently a lack of opportunity. Therefore, we want to support clubs to set up their own walking football session by offering 10 clubs a £100 grant to help establish and sustain a new women's walking football session in their local community.

Emma Eaton, our Football Development Officer, Female Lead, was in attendance and had the following to say:

"It was a fantastic evening with lots of laughter and a real sense of community. We had players in their twenties all the way to their 70s, with many playing for the very first time. We really want to see those numbers of players increasing as the season goes on because it's evident to see how many women love playing."

The next women’s walking football showcase event is due to take place in April. Further details to follow soon.
