ABOUT THE ROLE

The role of our Referee Observers is to support the development and progression of Referees enrolled onto our promotion scheme.
As a Referee Observer you will be assigned to work with match officials on a matchday and conduct assessments against promotion criteria, ensuring Referee’s are provided with the necessary feedback to develop their officiating skills.

All members of Surrey FA’s Referee Workforce (Observers, Developers, Mentors & Coaches) must undertake a mandatory two-hour Surrey FA safeguarding briefing prior to being assigned to matches – this is on top of the required FA Safeguarding Training as outlined in the person specification.
Safeguarding briefings are planned for the following dates (pick one date):
Monday 6 September or Wednesday 15 September (18:30 – 20:30).
As a voluntary role Referee Observers are not committed to complete a set number of hours or match observations per week, but will be expected to remain as active as possible throughout the season to ensure match officials being observed have continuity and regular support in line with the requirements of the promotion scheme.
Training & Development
All members of Surrey FA’s Referee Workforce are expected to undertake regular professional development each season, whether through the FA, Surrey FA and/or Referee Association workshops.
Referee Observers will also need to take part in mandatory FA training at a time to be confirmed once the season has begun.
The position is voluntary with expenses paid at a rate of £25 per game.
Term of role
Referee Observers will hold the position for a period of one season, reviewed at the end of each season.
Observations will be conducted during matchday at a time dependent on the chosen match officials scheduled appointment(s), requiring availability at evenings and weekends.
There will from time to time be a need for Referee Observers to attend meetings and/or training at Surrey FA’s Meadowbank HQ and/or online as required.
