The Surrey FA Youth Forum recently planned and delivered a Halloween Football Festival at Meadowbank Football Ground for girls aged 5–11 who play at Wildcats centres across Surrey.
The Youth Forum partnered with Surrey FA’s Girls Football Sponsor Hyped Marketing, who provided support on the day by running a series of fun mini games for the players to take part in when they were not participating in matches. These included penalty shootouts, relay races and a throw-in challenge (with suitable ball sanitising taking place in between turns!).
Four Young Leaders, who received training at the Youth Forum’s Young Leaders Development Days in January and February, attended the event to put the skills they learned during the workshops into practice. The Young Leaders served as referees and coaches at our festival — and with excellent support from members of the SFA Youth Forum, assisted with a group warm-up for all players and the final group activity which was a Wildcats session game to bring all the girls back together at the end of the morning.
Surrey FA Youth Forum Chair, Marcus Tyler, commented on the event saying: “It was fantastic to see the thirty 5-11-year-old girls having a great time playing football and having so much fun after such a difficult period of time for our sport.
The event was originally planned to take place in August as a summer football festival, but as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, we were forced to postpone. Thanks to the amazing support of Hyped Marketing, we were really pleased that we could run the event in October instead, with a Halloween theme, and give the players a chance to play football in a fun and safe environment.”
The morning was a great success, with positive feedback both in person and across social media from the players, coaches, parents and teams who attended the event. All the players left with Hyped Halloween goody bags and a smile on their face after a morning of football fun.
