Specsavers Surrey Senior Cup Second Round Recap

Specsavers Surrey Senior Cup Second Round Recap

Surrey’s sole Football League side crash out on penalties and the holders also exit the competition.

It’s only a matter of months before two of Surrey’s most senior sides head to Meadowbank to fight to win our flagship competition. The quarter-final stage is about to get underway, so what better time for a recap of the Specsavers Surrey Senior Cup second round to see how the last eight made it through to this stage.

The first tie of the round caused the biggest upset of the competition so far, as South Park beat the sole Football League representative AFC Wimbledon on penalties 5-4. Goalkeeper Craig Bradshaw was the hero on the night, pulling off key saves to help his side to a historic win.

Holders Met Police were on course for the quarter-finals after racing into a 2-0 lead against Chipstead, before Tom Collins turned the game on it’s head, scoring a hat-trick for the Chips to give them 3-2 win at home.

Woking FC, currently sitting 12th in the Vanarama National League narrowly edged past Isthmian Premier side Kingstonian - with Max Kretzschmar scoring the game’s decisive goal and his second of the competition.

Sutton Common Rovers failed to progress to the quarter-final stage, following their first round victory versus Westfield FC. In-form Dorking Wanderers proved too strong for Rovers in a 3-0 win at Meadowbank Football Ground.

Elsewhere, National League side Sutton United fell foul of lower league opposition Leatherhead FC. The Tanners recorded a resounding 3-0 victory at Fetcham Grove.

AFC Croydon Athletic came back from 2-0 down to score twice in the final ten minutes of the 90 to take Guildford City to a nervy shootout. Guildford City held their nerve to book a place in the quarter-finals of the competition winning 5-4 on penalties.

There is still a first and second round game to be played before we know the final line-up for the Specsavers Surrey Senior Cup quarter-final.
