Mentoring

It's important for newly qualified referees to have a senior figure to turn to.

So whether it's simply talking things through regarding law, or seeking advice when dealing with a difficult player or a difficult parent - there's support in place.

This level of support helps to keep more referees registered and involved in the game, providing a better service for football.

The Mentors only need to give a small amount of time to each referee, but their help and experience really is invaluable.

Surrey FA are pleased to be launching a new referee mentor role in August 2023.

The role will support new referees that are beginning their journey. Mentors will be required to attend games and provide feedback to the referee in order to help them develop.

Successful applicants will be required to attend The FA’s Introduction to Referee Mentoring course that is designed to equip people with some skills and knowledge to help them support referees in the early stages of their careers. It is the first of three levels of training in a new education pathway for referee mentors and coaches. The course focusses on three key areas.

a) building rapport and developing relationships
b) observation and
c) feedback

Successful applicants will also be required to sign the FA Safeguarding Code of Conduct and have a valid DBS and a valid FA Safeguarding Children qualification.

If you are interested in the role, please fill out the form below, which will take approximately 4 minutes.
