5-a-side

Small sided - 5, 6, 7-a-side leagues

With nearly 30,000 teams playing across England, small-sided football is seeing an ever-increasing rise in popularity.

This format of football has become an integral part of the football family, and with over 1.5m adults playing Small Sided Football every week, there’s now more chances to get playing than ever.

The appeal of small-sided football is clear to see; with flexible games that fit easily into a hectic schedule, a ‘pay-as-you-play’ structure and less commitment on weekends, it’s no wonder more people are playing.

There are lots of ways to get involved – whether it’s a local 5-a-side league, futsal, or the Surrey FA Business League in Dorking.

For referees, you can download the specific Laws of the Game developed for small sided football, which you can download here. Further to this, Surrey FA runs a specific Small Sided Referee Course for the 5v5 and 6v6 game, as well as Futsal conversion courses on a less regular basis.
