The final, in support of The Amber Foundation, was partially staffed by residents of Amber’s local centre in Ockley and they and the supporters of both sides were treated to an exciting game.

It was an explosive start from both sides at Meadowbank Stadium but it was Lingfield who created the first clear chance, firing an effort past the post on the sixth minute.

At the quarter of an hour mark a Lingfield player struck the crossbar from an inviting ball whipped into the six yard box.

It was not until the 33rd minute of the first half that Nottsborough fashioned a clear opening. It was their turn to rattle the woodwork - their best chance to take the lead in the first 45 minutes.

After an exciting, end-to-end first half the teams could not be separated at 0-0.

11 minutes into the second half, Lingfield thought they had taken the lead as Connor Wilford hit a venomous volley only for the goal to be ruled offside.

Lingfield’s number 11, Wilford was involved in the action again soon after as he weaved his way around two defenders and getting a shot away which the keeper dealt with comfortably this time.

The key moment in the final came in the 76th minute as Lingfield took the lead through Sammy Clements. It was always going to take something special to separate the two sides in this affair, and that was certainly the case. Clements’ long range strike looped into the top corner to spark joyous scenes from the Lingfield supporters and players alike.

The goal proved decisive as Nottsborough couldn’t find a way back into the game in the final fifteen.

As the referee blew his whistle at the end of the game, Lingfield were crowned 2019 Surrey Saturday Premier Cup Winners with a 1-0 victory. Defending champions Nottsborough offered strong opposition in a very close encounter.
