Specsavers Surrey Senior Cup: Draw Recap

The first round draw has been completed and there are some mouth-wateringties to look forward to in Surrey's flagship competition.

The first round draw has been completed and there are some mouth-watering ties to look forward to.

In this year’s Surrey Senior Cup we have 37 teams entered which means there has to be 5 preliminary games to make sure we have 32 teams for the first round of the competition.

The five preliminary ties are as follows; Croydon vs Redhill, Cobham vs Spelthorne, Camberley Town vs Kingstonian, Ashford Town vs Horley Town & finally Egham Town vs Raynes Park Vale. These games will be played by the 25th October.

The draw was carried out this morning at BBC Surrey via Facebook live, which you can watch here.

The holders of the competition, Merstham will start the defence of their crown with a home fixture against Badshot Lea. The Moatsiders will look to make this their third success of winning this tournament in four years. Finalists from last season Leatherhead FC start their challenge to go one step further than last year with a trip to Carshalton Athletic.

The stand out tie of the round as voted on our Twitter poll earlier was the Sutton derby with 59% of the vote.

The fifteen time winners, Sutton United take a very short trip to the away dressing room of Gander Green Lane with Sutton Common Rovers being drawn at home. This comes in the week that Sutton United were drawn the furthest away they will have played a domestic cup, having been picked to face Airdrieonians in Scotland.

This will be the very first time that these two teams have ever played each other, and as such will provide a brilliant occasion at Gander Green Lane.

The highest ranked team in the tournament from the Football League, AFC Wimbledon, will take on Dorking Wanderers which is set to be very entertaining game. The Dons return to the Surrey Senior Cup, of which they have won 5 times, after an absence of over ten years.

The thirteen time winners, Woking who are one of the highest ranked teams in this tournament will travel to either Croydon FC or Redhill. In fact if Redhill beat Croydon and go on to play Woking it will be a repeat of the 1926/27 season’s final of this very competition  - good news for Woking fans as they won that game 3-0.

A special mention goes to Virginia Water who make their first appearance in this prestigious competition after being promoted to the Hellenic Premier for this season. They play either Egham Town or Raynes Park Vale in the first round.

All the first round games of the Specsavers Surrey Senior Cup will be played by the 29th November.
