Surrey FA Youth Forum

Volunteering is the backbone of grassroots football.

Without the commitment, dedication and countless hours put in by people across Surrey, we wouldn’t have a game.

The Surrey FA Youth Forum brings together a group of young volunteer leaders aged 16-24 who create a range of inclusive opportunities, which provide young people with a voice that matters in local grassroots football. This group of young leaders help support Surrey FA with delivering projects and events, as well as ensuring that young people in Surrey get the opportunity to have their say to make a positive impact.

Being a member of the Youth Forum provides opportunities to support the County FA. Examples from recent seasons include Kick It Out, Football vs Homophobia and delivering The Young Leaders Development Programme, an initiative open to 12-16 year olds who are interest in starting their coaching journey or refereeing journey.

I found out about the Surrey FA Youth Forum on Twitter at the age of 17, and applied to join the team. This was my first experience of football off the pitch and gave me the opportunity to represent the voice of other young people in my county. This was a fantastic opportunity to interact with likeminded individuals and discuss a whole range of opportunities within football. It was important to me that every young person attending those events felt they could have an impact on their local football community and would consider the voice they could have within their club or organisation. Now, I hold the highest youth leadership position in football in the country as the chairperson of the FA National Youth Council (FANYC). I have been on the team for the last four years and can safely say being a part of youth leadership programmes has changed my life.
