Dorking Wanderers JPL Reds Win All Dorking Thorpe Park Under-15 Girls County Cup
On Sunday 17th March Dorking Wanderers JPL Reds overcame fellow Wanderers side in the second Surrey FA County Cup Final at Meadowbank Football Ground.
A fast-paced start saw Dorking Wanderers JPL Reds goalkeeper Amelia Backhurst called into action early on with a great save inside the first minute to deny Dorking Wanderers Blues an early lead.
Blues ‘keeper Violet Wolhuter was also forced into making multiple saves in the first 15 minutes to keep the scores level in what was an end-to-end opening quarter of the game. Wanderers JPL Reds were perhaps beginning to get the upper hand midway through the first half and their pace in the forward areas really started to test the Blues backline.
They made that pressure pay and would find the opener in the 18th minute. A free kick from Scarlett Mullane would cause all sorts of trouble in the Blues box with Megan Filer eventually firing home to put Wanderers JPL Reds ahead.
After that, the intensity continued with each team continuing to attack their opponents final third. Blues thought that they’d found the equaliser five minutes from half-time, only for the linesman’s flag to rule it out for offside.
The scoring wasn’t quite over in the first half, with Wanderers JPL Reds extending their lead in rather emphatic fashion. A curling effort from Milly Hulford-Funnell in the 38th minute going straight into the top corner to put her side two goals to the good in what was a rather wide open first 40 minutes.
In the exact same fashion that the first half ended, the second began with both teams wanting to play attacking football. JPL potentially with the better chances of the two but a string of impressive saves from Wolhuter would keep the Blues in with a shout with a quarter of the game to go.
JPL were however continuing to really stamp their authority on the game and would extend their lead once again through Filer, this time finding herself unmarked in the box to head home and to put the game to bed.
Wanderers Blues looked to find a deserved goal in the last ten minutes, but JPL’s defence would hold strong to keep a clean sheet and win the Thorpe Park Under 15 Girls County Cup Final.
