Sunday Inter Final

Frimley Green see off Palace Saint Germain to Sunday Intermediate Cup

6 goals featured in the entertaining final

Frimley Green saw an impressive goal rout as they overcame rivals Palace Saint Germain to lift the Sunday Intermediate Cup at Meadowbank.

Frimley started well from the offset, and their pressure led to a mistake by PSG in the box when the ball was judged to be handled. The resulting penalty was expertly dispatched by Jordan Carter to put his side ahead.

Soon after, Carter again demonstrated a great bit of skill to elude the PSG defence, though his low shot was well saved by the right foot of PSG keeper Charlie Cooper.

Frimley continued to pile on the pressure, and Cooper was called into action again as a corner routine was met by the head of defender Will Neville, Cooper was quick to react and dived to save what looked a certain goal.

Palace Saint Germain went on to find their footing in the half and Deji Alabi made an excellent break down the left wing before stepping into the box, but his high driven shot was well saved by Dan Bone in the Frimley goal.

Later in the half, Frimley captain Zac Hawker picked up a yellow card for a dangerous challenge, before Frimley increased their lead to 2 goals. Cooper turning to provider as he slipped the ball to Nick Thumwood who took his chance and hit it into the roof of the net in the 31st minute.

Shortly after, things got worse for PSG as a towering header was met by Mike Siemak, to increase the score to 3-0 before the interval.

Following the break, Palace Saint Germain started the second half well, forcing a dangerous free kick routine that went unrewarded, and another yellow card for Frimley, this time for Toby Jannaway. Despite this, they again went further behind when Thumwood got his brace in the 61st minute to put his side 4 goals to the good.

PSG did go on to register on the scoresheet, an opportunistic Lauris Chin running through on to a loose ball to put it in the back of the Frimley net in the 64th minute.

While it restored some pride for PSG’s efforts, Frimley made sure of the win in style as Mike Siemak received the ball from Thumwood after a good run and cross into the box, his finish making it another for him and 5-1 in the 86th minute.

Before the celebrations could begin, Frimley Green Captain Zac Hawker received another yellow card and a subsequent sending off, before his side went on to lift the Sunday Intermediate Cup.
