U15 Girls Final

Fleet Town clinch the U15 Girls Cup Final after thrilling penalty shootout

Penalties were needed to separate Fleet Town and Sutton United

Fleet Town overcome Sutton United to be crowned the U15 Girls County Cup Champions on a lively Sunday afternoon at Meadowbank.

It was an exciting opening to the game as Sutton United and Fleet Town’s girls battled hard on the pitch. The 10th minute saw Sutton's Annacristi Bernasconi open the scoring with a perfect lob over the Fleet keeper.

Fleet’s Mataya Caulkett – Brabant worked tirelessly in midfield, putting in intense tackles and displaying her impressive dribbling skills. Molly CadIe shone at the back for Sutton, being vocal and intercepting passes.

However, Fleet Town fought back and in the 25th minute, Ciara Heggarty scored to make it 1-1. It was a well-deserved goal as Fleet Town kept the ball alive after their corner was cleared and patiently built up to cross the ball again to the far post.

Sutton United soon gained momentum and created several chances, with Annacristi almost scoring again from a fantastic shot, saved by the vigilant Fleet goalkeeper. Halftime arrived with both teams level on the scoreboard.

In the second half, Fleet’s Sianna Heggarty dominated the midfield with her excellent tackling and passing. Sutton nearly scored again, but Fleet Town defended well to clear their lines.

Fleet’s Lottie Traxler looked like the real deal up top with her pace, skills, and directness towards goal. In the 68th minute, her desire to run into the box won them a penalty after she was pushed from behind. She converted her spot-kick with conviction to give Fleet Town the lead.

With 207 people in attendance closely watching, Fleet kept the ball well in the latter stages of the game. However, Poppy – Belle Walton equalized in the last minute of the game by attacking the near post and scoring a poacher’s goal after a beautiful cross came in from the right.

The match went into penalties, with Fleet Town winning 4-2 thanks to their goalkeeper Amelia Kipling saving 2 crucial penalties.

Overall, it was a thrilling match where both sides gave their all, but Fleet Town girls came out on top to claim victory in the Thorpe Park U15 Girls final.
