Referee CPD Webinar: Confidence of a Referee

The webinar will take place on Thursday 27 January (19.00-21.00)

Stuart Carrington, Lecturer in Sports Coaching Science at St Mary’s University, will be delivering a webinar for referees on Thursday 27 January (19.00-21.00) titled the Confidence of a Referee. 
Stuart, the author of Blowing the Whistle: The Psychology of Football Refereeing, holds a BSc (Hons) in Sport and Exercise Science, an MSc in Applied Sport Psychology, and began his PhD in 2020, focusing on the psychology of a football official. 

The CPD session will focus on the topic of confidence as a referee. Blending research in psychology with real-world examples, the presentation, approximately 90 minutes in length, will cover the following:

a) Why confidence (or self-efficacy) is important for officials
b) What creates confidence?
c) What does confidence look like in practice?
d) Key strategies to develop confidence as a match-official
e) Questions and answers

The event is open to all level referees and will take place on Microsoft Teams.
