Referee Long Service Awards

Referee long service awards

An event to celebrate Surrey FA referees for their dedicated long service to grassroots football

On Thursday 21st April, Surrey FA hosted a special event at Leatherhead Football Club, to acknowledge our referees for their long service to the game and award their individual achievements.
With awards ranging from 15 to 50 years, the evening was a fantastic occasion to provide our referees with their respective awards. Alongside Surrey FA President and former referee, Ray Lewis, was EFL Championship referee Gavin Ward, who presented awards to the recipients as well as collecting his own for 15 years’ service.

Speaking on the event, Surrey FA Referee Development Officer, Craig Hicks said: "While I’m still early into my role, it was crucial that following a long period of uncertainty and restrictions surrounding COVID, that we look to acknowledge our deserving referees and congratulate them on their outstanding accomplishments."

Nicholas Barclay, who himself collected an award for 25 years’ service, said: "I would like to thank the Surrey FA team and the kind people from Leatherhead FC for making the evening so memorable. Both my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the event, and I was so proud to receive the 25-year award. Refereeing has given me so much happiness and satisfaction and I greatly appreciate all that Surrey FA have done for me over the years to make this possible, it’s a great life."

We are grateful to those who attended the event and would like to congratulate them once again for receiving their awards. You can keep up to date with everything referee related by subscribing to our official referee newsletter below.
