New Changing Pavilion Officially Open At Windlesham Field Of Remembrance
A new state-of-the-art changing pavilion was officially opened at Windlesham Field of Remembrance in Surrey recently (Saturday 18 January).
The new pavilion was possible thanks to investment from the Premier League, The FA and Government's Football Foundation, as well as grants from Sport England, London Marathon Charitable Trust, as well as significant contribution from Windlesham Field of Remembrance Trust and Windlesham Parish Council.
After netting a £277,794 grant from the Football Foundation, work begun on the site in August 2018. The two-team changing pavilion replaces an outdated facility which was originally built in the 1950’s and no longer fit for purpose. The Windlesham Field of Remembrance Trust (WFoR) own the freehold to the site as a registered charity and will share the facility with Windlesham partner club Windlesham FC.
The new facility comprises of two team changing rooms, an officials’ changing room, large clubroom, kitchen, bar, spectator toilets and storage space. The facilities will ensure that Windlesham FC meet the requirements of an FA Charter Standard Community Club.
Windlesham FC anticipate that the new pavilion will support the growth of fifteen new teams at the club over the next five years, taking the total to 39 teams. Focus on increased female participation will be boosted by four new female teams, supporting over 60 girls playing competitive football at the club.
Former England and Tottenham Hotspur striker, Gary Lineker, is Honorary Chairman at Windlesham FC and his sons all played for the club in their early years.
Paul Thorogood, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation, said: “Grassroots sport plays an important role in communities across the UK, creating opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds. That is why I am delighted that Windlesham Field of Remembrance Trust has now opened their state-of-the-art changing pavilion in Surrey, thanks to investment from the Football Foundation.
“Continuing to improve access to high-quality facilities like this one is a key aim for the Premier League, The FA and the Government. Delivered by the Football Foundation, their funding supports projects for clubs and organisations all over the country and is helping to boost the number of people benefiting from sport through better facilities.
“Grassroots football provides so many benefits for members of the community, not least of which is the opportunity to enjoy themselves. Love for our national game, something that can be found across the country, is an integral part of what drives the Foundation and its Funding Partners to keep increasing the standards and quality of our facilities.”
Mike Gilham, Head of Participation and Development, said: “I am delighted to see this fantastic new facility open following support from The Football Foundation, The Premier League, The FA and Surrey FA. Windlesham FC are a fantastic Charter Standard Club and I hope that the pavilion will not only allow the club to provide an improved matchday experience for players and spectators, but also prove to be an asset to the local community.”
