Dana Cup - Dominic Fairhurst Interview

Marcus Tyler
With the Dana Cup underway, we spoke to Dominic Fairhurst beforehand about what he will take away from his first time at the tournament.

How were you selected to attend the Dana Cup on behalf of Surrey FA – can you tell us about the application process?

I was originally asked if it was something I would be interested in by Surrey’s Referee Development Officer, Tim Lawrence at a Development group meeting. Since then I was asked if I was still interested when I met Tim at development days or meetings. I was then emailed saying I had been selected and accepted the invitation.

What are you most looking forward to when you attend the tournament and the trip to Denmark?

Being able to meet new referees from around the world and referee international players. Helping me develop my communication skills and my whole performance as a referee.

What learning will you take away from refereeing at the tournament to put towards your refereeing journey?

Communication with international players and different ways of refereeing a different standard of football.

How many games do you expect to officiate on and at what level?

I expect a smaller number of games of younger age groups as I am one of the new referees this season at the Dana Cup, but I am still hopeful for a final.
