Moatsiders 125th year marked with specsavers surrey senior cup win

Merstham record their third Specsavers Surrey Senior Cup trophy, and their second in three years, proving once more why Hayden Bird's side is to be feared in cup competitions.

In a game which started with Leatherhead on top, it was hard to see Merstham taking control of the game - but the Moatsiders soaked up the pressure, and on 36 minutes Reece Hall turned in the opener.

After half-time, Merstham picked up where they left off, quashing The Tanners threat with considerable ease. Their quick start was rewarded, and on the 49th minute, Sean Bennet-Johnson doubled their lead, sliding the ball under Leatherhead goalkeeper Manny Agboola

Leatherhead's misery was compounded on 56 minutes when, after failing to clear their lines, Tommy Kavanagh plucked the air out of the air beautifully and into the bottom left corner past the helpless goalkeeper.

Despite the game looking like it was put beyond doubt, Leatherhead's departing Player / Assistant Manager Jack Midson headed home in the 80th minute from a free-kick, but it wasn't enough to inspire The Tanners to fight back.
