Meet our Board
Les Pharo - Chair
As an existing board member, Les stepped up to the role of Chair ten years ago. Les has overseen the move to Meadowbank Football Ground and a great deal of change at Surrey FA whilst Chair.
Les started his journey with Surrey football taking his son to football, then running his team, which was Raynes Park Rovers. He then became a committee member of the club and then a committee member of the Epsom & Ewell Youth League, later becoming their Referee’s Secretary and Chair. Les also started to referee at this time and did so for 32 years. He joined the Combined Counties League and eventually became their Secretary up until becoming Chair of Surrey FA.
Ray Lewis - President
Ray’s first involvement with Surrey FA was in 1962 when he passed his referees’ course at Kingston Society. He completed 50 years of active refereeing which included twenty four-years on the Football League list as well as the FIFA list of referees.
He joined the Surrey FA Council in 1993 and served as Referees Secretary, Vice-chairman, Chairman and is now our President.
Ray represented the County on the FA Council for seventeen years, serving on the National Game Board as well as Chairing the Referees’ Committee and Leagues’ Committee.
Most of his business career was spent in the hospitality industry before setting up is own company involved with sports clothing, corporate and school-wear. He has been a Fellow of the Hotel and Catering Institute and a Member of the Chartered Management Institute.
Ray was made a Vice-President of the Isthmian League in 2019 as well as receiving the Non-League Paper’s ‘Life Time Achievers’ award.
Soye Briggs - Vice Chair
Soye is currently the Chief Operating Officer of a Youth Charity: The Winchester Project and is a Board member of Surrey FA, Kinetic Foundation and Kickstart Charity. He worked previously at Fulham FC Foundation to deliver training to football coaches working with challenging and hard to reach young people. He also supported the Club to achieve their ‘Intermediate Equality Standard. He then went on to become Head of Operations at Fulham before leaving to take up a role as a consultant with Brentford Community Sports Trust and then in 2013 moved to a role as Director of Community Development at Crystal Palace FC Foundation now known as Palace for Life Foundation. Soye was also Head of Equality at Crystal Palace FC for two years, leading the club to achieve the Premier League Intermediate Equality Standard.
His love affair with Surrey County FA began 7 years ago and became a county member in 2012. He has sat as Chair of the Race and Religion subgroup and more recently Vice Chair of the Equalities committee and have been involved with the implementation of the SCFA Strategy as it relates to targets around the Equality Action Plan. He also sits as a discipline commission panel member and was nominated by the County FA to complete the FA sponsored ‘On the board’ programme where he graduated in 2015 in areas of Corporate Governance and is now a Trustee at the County and the current Vice Chair and has been a Board Director for 5 years. Soye also currently chairs the governance subgroup of the Board to oversee the implementation of the new FA Governance Code for Sport.
Soye has held senior management positions for the past 18 years and has been responsible for the creation, implementation and review of organisational Values, Vision and Strategies.
Lizzie's career started back in 1994 and spans sports, entertainment, events and global renown tournaments. Projects ranged from organizing the entire UK’s hospitality programme for Commonwealth Games in Canada to delivering to 22 FA Cups, 3 Champions Leagues and every Euros and World Cup since 1996 - not to mention bringing Kelly Rowland over to sing the National Anthem for England V USA in 2008.
She has worked commercially with 3 generations of England teams and all their sponsors as well as producing the opening ceremony of the new Wembley Stadium - FA Cup Final 2007.
Lizzie has managed over 300 sports stars and high-profile celebrities, brokering commercial deals, creating their brand plans and their entire PR campaigns.
Most recently she founded Halls and Halls which is a highly successful events, sports and PR company. In 2017 she was invited onto the Management Committee at the Surrey and in June the following year was honoured to become a board member.
Nick has been the Finance Director on the Surrey FA Board since July 2014, overseeing all financial aspects of the Charity. In July 2019 Nick was also appointed onto the FA Council as the representative of the Surrey FA, where he serves on the National Game Finance Committee & the Affiliated Associations Committee.
In his day job, Nick is the Finance Director on the Executive Board at STATS Perform, a leading global, digital sports media business, having previously qualified as an ACA Chartered Accountant with Deloitte, following graduation from Loughborough University.
In his playing career, Nick played for various teams around the County including Sutton United, Epsom & Ewell, and Worcester Park, as well as spending time coaching in the US.
Victor served as a police officer for 35 years. He joined Surrey Police in 1982 straight from university, where he obtained a BSc Biochemistry (Hons) degree. In his 35 year career, Victor worked for City of London Police in various departments including Fraud Squad as a Detective Inspector. He also went onto work for the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) as a Superintendent for six years before being promoted to Chief Superintendent and posted to Bexley Borough as Borough Commander and went on to do the same role in the borough of Haringey. Victor has a PhD in Criminology from the London School of Economics and Political Science. In 2016 he took on the role of head of Diversity and Inclusion for the MPS and in 2017, he was awarded the Queen’s Police Medal for distinguished police service.
He retired from the Police Service In October 2017 and since retirement, Victor has worked voluntarily as a Director for Safeguarding at Surrey FA, a Trustee at Selby Trust in Tottenham and a friend at Middlesex Learning Partnership. He has worked as visiting lecturer at Portsmouth University, University of West London, and the police training college in Abu Dhabi. He works as an advisor with the Military Police in Sao Paulo and Civil Rights Defenders, which is a civil society organisation in Sweden. Victor recently joined the Board of Governors at NACRO as a Trustee.
Jez has worked for Surrey County Council for 22 years in procurement, contract, project, relationship and lean management. He has experience as the Chairman through his role with another charity and extensive involvement with voluntary organisations.
He returned to football, after retiring from playing in 1994, when he was asked to help run a team his son’s team 2003.
In 2006, Jez was instrumental in setting up AFC Brooklands. Jez became a County Member as part of the Charter Standard Committee in 2012 and later joined the Board, with a lead on youth football.
He has held senior committee roles with the Surrey Primary League and as Chairman of AFC Brooklands’ adult and youth football clubs.
He is passionate about youth football and encourages young players to coach or referee, as well as play. Currently, he coaches girls’ football with his daughter’s team, is a qualified coach and a Club Welfare Officer. He enjoys mentoring new and young coaches at his club.
William Douglas is currently the Chief Commercial Officer and member of the Executive Committee at Vistra, a global professional services company. He is responsible for the commercial management and development of Vistra’s business globally.
Prior to this, William was at JLL, as Chief Marketing Officer, overseeing the global marketing function. In this role, he was responsible for commercial planning and branding, as well as sales and marketing transformation programmes. His commercial experience includes senior, global roles in the technology industry, with Samsung Electronics and Blackberry.
William is an active Level 4 referee and has been on the SFA Board since July 2019.
