HerTeam is an exciting new project, launching in the surrounding areas of, Waverley, Woking and Surrey Heath.

Its aim is to encourage women into participating in casual football sessions to improve their mental wellbeing. We have made intentional outreach to engage with women from minoritised ethnicities and backgrounds, and ensured our delivery creates a safe and inclusive space for women from all backgrounds.

The project looks to form community through prioritising players’ mental wellbeing. We have a great provision focused on men’s mental health in Surrey, so we want to replicate this amazing reach with women in harder to reach places and backgrounds.  

We’re launching this December in acknowledgement of a notoriously challenging mental health period with the festive season around the corner, and football sessions will begin in January as something to look forward to for 16 weeks. At the end of the series, we would like to form a team from across the 3 areas to participate in The Mental Health World Cup at QPR in May, or attend as spectators as a competitive and exciting finale to the project. This would require fundraising which we would welcome discussing with you on our launch day. 

All the football sessions will have access to a mental health professional, to either be used for direct support or to encourage conversations within the team (casual or sharing mental health tools), provided by The Priory Group. 

During this event, participants will:
• Receive an overview of the project and our primary objectives
• Meet valued partners and stakeholders working across football, mental health and minoritised ethnicity communities to network with
• Observe a demo-session, delivered in one of the event spaces we're using in January, Woking Leisure Centre
