Referee Education Academy

The Referee Education Academy is a two year full-time education course for 16-18 year olds, aimed at developing referees.

The course is aimed at 16-18 year olds who want to develop themselves as referees, gain nationally recognised qualifications and who want to build a strong basis for a career based in sport.

The course is free, however there will be a subsidised charge for the training kit required. All of the training takes place at the new Surrey FA Headquarters based at Meadowbank in Dorking, set to open in September 2017.

The Course

Over the two year duration, students will study a variety of nationally recognised qualifications within sport, coaching anf fitness. These include:

  • Principles of Anatomy and Physiology
  • The Physiology of Fitness

  • Practical Team Sports

  • Sports Coaching

  • Analysis of Sport Performance

  • The Athlete's Lifestyle

  • Psychology for Sports Performance

  • Sports Nutrition 

Digital Learning

In addition to classroom based learning delivered by outstanding teachers and training by highly qualified coaches, students will have access Pro-VLE, the Digital Learning Environment. Pro-VLE has been specifically designed to create a personalised, first class, digital learning experience for students and has been tailored to support their education and development.

  • Access study resources any place and at any time
  • Simple submission of assignments online

  • Students can interact with their class, teachers and coaches using Yammer

  • Direct access to timetables, learner plans and emails 

  • Immediate access to tutor support

  • Coaches will share performance and grades directly with students online

  • A section of the Pro-VLE solely dedicated to information, advice and guidance on Career Progression

Training

The specific refereeing training that the students will receive includes:

  • Referee in local youth and open age football as well as the opportunity to referee at the Chelsea and Fulham Academies
  • Six hours of training a week both theory and practical on the laws of the game and their application by highly qualified FA Tutors

  • Guidance on diet and nutrition with weekly fitness programmes

  • Appointed a mentor to support them through their early development

  • Receive further training and development

  • When students graduate they will be qualified Level 7 referees able to officiate local youth and open age games
