Sat Junior Final

Woodmansterne Hyde overcome Deepcut Community to win the Saturday Junior Cup

The eventful final saw WHFC run out as winners

The Saturday Junior Cup final saw Woodmansterne Hyde FC overcome Deepcut Community FC despite being reduced to 9 players.

Woodmansterne had a promising start to the game as they put pressure on the Deepcut defence, Eren Berkay looked to be in for the first goal as he stole the ball on the edge of the box, but his shot was fired just over the bar.

Shortly after, Chris Beard found himself in a 1v1 situation with Deepcut goalkeeper Sam Field, but Field was on top form as he made an excellent right-handed save to keep the scores level. The space opened up again for Woodmansterne, an inch perfect cross to Daniel Hughes looked to put him in, though his heavy touch let him down.

The pressure continued from Woodmansterne, and a free kick into the box was volleyed superbly by Callum Kennedy, but Field was there again to pull off another fantastic save to keep Deepcut in the tie. The deadlock looked to be broken by Beard following another good attack, but he was prevented by a crucial goal line clearance by Steve Dale.

Despite the resilience of the Deepcut defence, a bad challenge in the box led to a penalty kick in the 27th minute, up stepped Kennedy who this time made no mistake as he droved the ball into the back of the net to make to 1-0 to Woodmansterne.

Going behind spurred on the Deepcut attack and their chance came when Charlie Gordon broke into the box and forced a near post save from Brett Beadon.

Shortly after, a misplaced clearance from Beadon fell to Shaun Patrick, who saw the opportunity to strike from long range. The shot was awkward for Beadon, who could only parry it to be cleared by his defence, it then fell to Lee Jones who fired wide of the goal.

Woodmansterne looked nervous at the back and another misplaced pass fell to Thomas Allen who looked to line up the shot, unfortunately for Deepcut, the strike was fired wide again.

Despite the pressure, Woodmansterne doubled their lead on 36 minutes, when Beard did well to steal the ball and run into the Deepcut box, his composed finish into the bottom right corner gave his team the advantage going into the interval.

The second half saw a renewed Deepcut side early on after introducing their substitutions, and Woodmansterne were impacted after Nick Rumbol was sent off for a cynical challenge. Thomas Ruddle looked to capitalise on the man advantage when he was slipped through, though his low driven shot was aimed directly at Beadon who stood firm and parried it away for a throw.

Woodmansterne looked to make it a 3-goal lead and Beard was after his brace when he struck a low driven shot towards the Deepcut goal, but this was comfortably collected by Sam Field. Beard had another chance when broke through the Deepcut defence but was taken too far wide and his looped ball nestled on the roof of the net.

Deepcut kept pushing to get on the scoresheet and Josh Griffiths struck a good shot to force another save from Beadon, who, not long after, found himself also being sent off for Woodmansterne when he appeared to drop the ball outside the box and foul Ruddal as he attempted to rectify the error, leaving his side down to 9.

The advantage for Deepcut led to them getting on the scoresheet in stoppage time, with Griffiths looping the ball over to Sam Wilson, who took a good touch and fired into the top of the net making it all to play for with minutes remaining.

A frantic period followed, where a ball across to Adam Campbell could have made it 2-2, but his shot was well over the goal and Woodmansterne Hyde FC held on to finish the game as winners of the Saturday Junior Cup.
