Surrey FA Awarded Goalpost Funding to Support Community Venue

Local clubs in Mole Valley are set to benefit from fresh investment into local football facilities.

Surrey FA have been awarded a grant from the Premier League, The FA and Government’s Football Foundation, to fund new 360° goalposts at Meadowbank Football Ground.

The Football Foundation is the UK’s largest sports charity and exists to improve the experience of playing football for everyone, by championing fair access to quality facilities.

This grant will support Surrey FA as a charity, to improve their community facility in the heart of Surrey. Clubs using the facility will have access to portable goalposts with 360° functionality. This will allow goals to be wheeled on and off the pitch between users, from youth football and County Cup Final fixtures right the way through to National League South fixtures for the stadium’s lead tenants.

Surrey FA have received £5,400 towards funding 10 new 360° goals which will fund 4 x pairs of 7v7 and 1 x pair of 9v9 goals.

Andrew Dickinson, Operations Manager and Deputy CEO, Surrey FA, said: “We are delighted to receive this funding from the Football Foundation towards new goals, which will massively benefit Meadowbank as a hub for community football."

Robert Sullivan, Interim Chief Executive of the Football Foundation, said: “We know the huge benefits playing regular football can have on individuals’ physical and mental well-being.  That’s why we’re committed to transforming the face of grassroots football facilities in this country.  It’s therefore very welcome news to hear that this funding will support Surrey FA in developing Meadowbank Football Ground for their local community.

“Working with our partners – the Premier League, The FA, government and Sport England – we will be investing in over £1bn worth of local facilities across the country over the next decade.

We believe we can transform lives and strengthen communities by unlocking the power of pitches and this is another project that brings us closer to that ultimate goal.”

This latest grant represents just one of the 189 awarded to clubs and organisations in Surrey over the last 12 months. A total of £660,000 has been invested into by the Football Foundation in this period.
