Surrey Teams Take Home FA Futsal Cup Silverware

Go4Goal U16's and Winston Churchill School U13's had huge success at the 2019 FA Futsal Cup Finals held at St George’s Park.

It was a bumper bank holiday weekend for Futsal in the county as two Surrey-based sides scored victories at the 2019 FA Futsal Cup Finals at St George’s Park, the home of English football. Go4Goal came through a tense match against Oxford City Lions Futsal Club whilst Winston Churchill School claimed the U13 title.

The Tolworth based Go4Goal team came through a Surrey County FA qualifier in Woking in January, regionals in March, and then a tense semi-final in Birmingham in April. With previous history in the competition recording wins for their U14 and U16s in 2017, this squad of players were the returning U14s.

Go4Goal Head Coach Luis Melville reflected on his U16s team’s victory, “The boys were expecting a tough game and that’s what we got. Credit to Oxford for making it an excellent game of futsal. Also, full credit to the boys who had agreed the game plan and stuck to it both in possession, out of possession plus the transitions. They should be very proud of themselves and we are looking forward to seeing how these lads progress with their futsal careers. Hopefully, this will see a big push in Futsal in the Surrey County FA area”.

Go4Goal Director Andy Maciel said. ‘It was a great performance by both teams and a fabulous experience for the young lads to play at St. George’s Park. We hope it inspires them and others to take up and progress in the game’.

They weren’t the only Surrey side to take home the silverware. Winston Churchill School, who had received coaching from Go4Goal themselves ahead of their semi-final victory, won the U13 title. They overcame Tanfield School with a 3-1 victory at St George’s Park. The boys were each presented with a winners’ medal before lifting the trophy in front of both sets of supporters. A quick look around St George's Park followed before setting off home. It was an experience that will live long in the memory for the boys.

On the team’s success, Martyn Hall of Surrey Schools FA commented, "We are really proud of the students and staff from Winston Churchill School on winning the National Schools Futsal title. Winston Churchill represented the county after winning the Surrey Schools competition and then went all the way to St Georges Park to win the National competition. This is particularly pleasing as it was the first time Surrey Schools had run the U13 & U15 Futsal Competition for Boys and Girls in the county. We had over 40 Boys and Girl School teams involved in this year’s competition, hopefully we will have more schools involved next year and maybe even more national titles for Surrey!"
