Clubs and volunteers from around Surrey’s grassroots game were celebrated on Monday 23rd July.

Good Morning Britain’s Charlotte Hawkins was joined by former Premier League star Dennis Wise at the Surrey FA Awards, sponsored by MH Goals, on a brilliant evening of awards and recognition.

Taking place at the Harbour Hotel in Guildford, the Surrey FA Awards evening bought together a vibrant collection of people from across the county, with the aim of recognising the dedication that goes into the grassroots game.

“It was great to see so many local clubs and teams being recognised at the Surrey FA Awards,” said former Chelsea and England footballer Dennis Wise. “It’s fantastic to give the recognition to those in our great game."

Alongside the eight awards from The FA McDonalds Grassroots Awards categories, the evening also celebrated the long service of referees, clubs and volunteers, whilst also recognising the Club Welfare Officer of the Year award.

“The awards night was a fantastic showcase”, said Crystal Palace Groundsman Bruce Elliot, who presented the Grounds Team Of The Year award. “Not only for the hard work and dedication shown by the winners, but also in highlighting the great work carried out by the Surrey FA in promoting grassroots football.”

Chelsea Women’s goalkeeper and Swedish international Hedvig Lindahl was also present on the night, presenting the Young Volunteer of the Year Award. Speaking of its importance to recognise the youth in our games, Hedvig commented, “Although I am a current player It doesn't mean I am not  aware that grassroots football is where it all starts for all of us.”

“It was great to see a diverse set of people working within our game be recognised for the good they do - well done Surrey FA."

With the football season now back underway across the county, the work of these dedicated volunteers is once more the foundation of a successful season for so many clubs and leagues. “We are delighted that we could dedicate such a brilliant evening to all of our award winners,” said Caroline McRoyall, Surrey FA Chief Executive. “Their work is crucial to grassroots football, and keeping the game we love thriving.”
