Funding Grassroots Football: 16/17 Review

There are a variety of initiatives that help grassroots football clubs around the country prosper – from large national programmes, to focused...

Whether it help contributes to a new set of cones, or helps to develop state of the art facilities, the funding helps to make a crucial difference.

But what is actually available, and how do grassroots clubs apply?

We’ve broken the funding into the three key avenues; The FA Community Shield Fund, the Club Development Fund, and the Football Foundation’s Grow The Game Grant. We’ve also provided a recap on how this money has been distributed, which gives an insight into how grassroots football is being supported by both Surrey FA and The FA.

The FA Community Shield Fund

Met Police Youth FC was quick to put the money from their grant to good use in engaging with the local Asian community, supporting the development of a session ran by one dad.

They were able to provide equipment, as well as help the dad onto a FA Level 1 Coaching Course, helping the future development of the children.

How do I apply?

Applications for this scheme are now closed. Clubs must fulfil certain criteria to be considered for funding, focused around making a positive aspect in their community.

The FA Community Shield Fund is likely to be opened again in 2018, however this is as yet unconfirmed. To ensure you are aware of the scheme relaunching, please ensure you keep up-to-date with Surrey FA on Facebook and Twitter, as well as checking our website regularly.

The Club Development Fund

Surrey FA is always looking to work with our member clubs to increase the opportunities and better the experience for players throughout the county. The Club Development Fund aims to assist with one off costs for the effective establishment and delivery of innovative ideas to recruit more players.

  • £500 to Monotype FC to deliver sessions within schools in order to create 1 new team (from the U7- 12 age groups).
  • £750 to Milford Pumas to run a Girls Festival and offer half price subscriptions for Girls in order to create 1 new team (from U7-U9 Girls age groups).
  • £1,000 to Manorcroft United to provide kit, equipment and coaching qualifications in order to create 2 new teams (any 2 from U8’s , U17’s & U18’s).
  • £250 to Banstead Village to introduce Futsal sessions for their youth teams in order to create 1 new Futsal team (from U7 – U15 age groups).
  • £500 to Merstham to start ladies recreational sessions and games and provide equipment & training venue for these sessions in order to create 1 new Adult Female team.
  • £500 + a free Nike kit to Deepcut Youth to purchase new goals and footballs in order to create 1 new team (U10’s).
  • £250 to Kingstonian Ladies to support retention of their existing Ladies team by assisting with marketing and promotion event costs.
  • £500 to Sutton Common Rovers to go towards kit, equipment, coaching courses and promotional materials in order to create 2 new teams (Adult Female & Male U21’s).
  • £250 + a free Nike kit to Cavaliers AFC to assist with start-up costs (kit & equipment) in order to create 1 new team (Adult Male).
  • Free Nike Kits to four more teams, helping them to get started.

How Do I Apply?

Applications for this scheme are currently closed. If the scheme is running again next season, announcements will be made through our website and social media.

Grow the Game Grant

How Do I Apply?

Grow the Game provides funding for projects that use football to increase participation by both players and volunteers. 

Applications are welcome from organisations that are 'not for profit' and planning to set up one or more new football teams over the next two years.

The scheme is currently closed for applications, but will be opening once again in early 2018.
