England Ladies

Womens World Cup Inspired tournament

Despite the rain over 60 women inspired by the lionesses performances in the World Cup came to take part in a Surrey County FA World Cup Themed...

There were 8 teams from across the county taking part at Woking Leisure Centre on Sunday.

The small sided competition was organised to help celebrate and promote the Women’s World Cup and to also engage more women to participate in football.  With England Ladies Saturday quarter final win over Canada still fresh in people’s minds there was a great atmosphere amongst the players on the day.

All teams were given a country from one of the 8 quarter finalists to represent throughout the day.  After a long day of matches the competition reached the semi-final stage and these were contested with Australia v France and Canada v Germany.  After two excellent semi-final matches the finalists were decided and the final was contested between Australia v Canada.  The final match was a very close encounter but in the end Canada was triumphant and were crowned winners of the Surrey County FA Women’s World Cup themed tournament.

We would like to thank all those who took part in the day!

Don't forget to tune in to BBC 1 this evening from 11.10pm to watch England Ladies v Japan in the World Cup Semi Final.  The Lionesses are the first England team to reach a World Cup last four spot since 1990 and face Japan in Edmonton.
