The Respect and Fair Play Awards 2013

The nomination process for this year's Respect and Fair Play Awards is now open and we're calling on the game's unsung heroes across Surrey to share their success stories.

The County FA are looking to recognise and reward clubs, leagues and individuals that are making a significant contribution to improving behavioural standards in football.

As mentioned above, the categories cater for clubs (at all levels) and leagues (National League System, Grassroots Adult and Youth Leagues etc) as well as individuals, with the winner of this last group earning the Bobby Moore Award, given to those who - like the England World Cup winning captain himself - provide a great example of the way in which the game should be played.

Last year's set of Respect and Fair Play Awards saw the Surrey County Intermediate League win the national Silver Award, while the Surrey Youth League, Chessington & District and Leatherhead & District Sunday Leagues all received the Bronze Award at County level.

These leagues achieved this success through (amongst other things) recruiting and valuing referees, incentivising good behaviour and who's captain's work with officials to manage on pitch behaviour.

Prizes this year include:

Commended - Respect resources (balls, USB sticks, pens etc)
Bronze - £100 off County affiliation
Silver - Celebrity football speaker at a function and £2000 coaching bursary OR 5 hospitality tickets for an England seniors match
Gold - all previous prizes plus an invitation to an Awards ceremony at the FA Cup Final on May 11th 2013 to receive the Gold Award in front of 400 VIP guests

FA Chairman David Bernstein said: "The Respect Awards recognise the clubs, leagues and individuals at all levels of the game that have set and maintained high standards or who have experienced difficult days and taken it upon themselves to do something about it.

"Through education, promotion, campaigning but mostly dogged perseverance they will have set a standard of behaviour which has changed for the better the conduct of teams and individuals," he added.
