Surrey and Hampshire Join Forces for Team 19

Boys and girls from colleges in Surrey and Hampshire did battle earlier this summer in the first ever Combined Counties Team 19 Tournament, with...

Team 19 is an exciting football project launched by the FA earlier this year which sees the students themselves run mini-leagues during their lunch hours or after college.

In the boys tournament along with Carshalton, Farnham, Strode's, East Surrey and Reigate College travelled over the border to face Hampshire-based colleges Totton, Peter Symonds and Queen Mary's (who hosted the event in Basingstoke). Reigate and Strode's also took a girls side with them, along with Brooklands and Guildford College

The teams were filled with non-Academy or first-team players, with an emphasis on those students who enjoy recreational football.

The boys' group stages were hotly contested with some outstanding football played by all the players on show, with Reigate eventually losing to Carshalton in a tense final. And despite all the girls sides from Surrey putting up a great fight, Hampshire-based Peter Symonds reinged supreme and along with getting their hands on the cup also won tickets to watch Arsenal Ladies play.
