The scheme aims to create a legacy for the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games, investing £10 million of National Lottery funding in community sports projects over three years from 2011-2014.
The Protecting Playing Fields (PPF) scheme will fund capital projects to establish, develop and improve playing fields for community and sporting use.
Grants of £20,000 to £50,000 are available and match funding is required for all applications.

Eligible organisations include the following:
- Voluntary or community organisations.
- Local authorities.
- Sports clubs.
- Playing field associations.
- Charities.
- Education establishments.
Funding will close on 12th December 2011 and all applicants must be a multi-pitch site (e.g. more than 1 pitch onsite).
Applications must be submitted using Sport England’s Guide to Costs for Different Types of Projects (which are detailed on the above link).
Applicants will need a 3-year business and sports development plan and a decision is expected within 10 weeks of the closing date (with the project being completed within 2 years).
A minimum 25-year lease is required while Community and Voluntary applicants must provide at least 30% partnership funding and local authorities 50%.
