The Surrey County Football Association is pleased to announce that the Surrey Youth League has achieved Charter Standard League Status. This prestigious kite mark gives the league recognition of their work at a grassroots level and its ability to provide a high quality, safe and enjoyable football experience.
The league caters for over 450 teams from U7 up to U18. They offer free football to mini soccer teams and implement a slow start policy for U7s and U8s, where players and managers are eased into the league through the first 2 to 3 months. They are staunch supporters of the Respect Program and implement a Football Watch initiative checking on clubs behaviour unannounced throughout the season. This scheme was recognised in the 2010 National FA Respect and Fair Play Awards.
The President of the Surrey Youth League Roy Lomax and his wife Pam, who is also a life vice president of the League, collected their award at the Surrey County FA’s awards evening held on 21st July at Leatherhead Football Club. The award was presented by special guest Ray Wilkins, Chelsea FC assistant first team coach.
Frank Thopmson, General Secretary of the Surrey Youth League said ‘We are delighted to have been awarded Charter Standard Status: it is testament to the hard work of the League’s Management Committee who constantly strive to provide the best environment possible for young people to enjoy football’.
Caroline McRoyall, County Development Manager for Surrey CFA added: ‘This is a great achievement for this league and shows the high level of commitment by the league to the development and support of their clubs’.
