The Surrey County Football Association is pleased to announce that the Surrey Primary Youth League is the first league in Surrey to attain Charter Standard League Status. This prestigious kite mark gives the league recognition of their work at a grassroots level.
The league is one of the largest youth leagues in Surrey and currently has 603 teams playing and over 7,000 players registered and are now nationally the largest league to gain Charter Standard Status. They offer football divisions from U7s to U18s and will also be supporting the new County Disability League for the 2009/10 season.
Mark Fessey, Chairman of the Surrey Primary League commented “As the pilot League in Surrey for this award the SPL Committee, namely Jez Taylor (Charter Standard League Coordinator) with support from Nikki Simmonds (Secretary) have worked very hard behind the scenes with Surrey County Football Association to be able to achieve this. The League would like to thank all at Surrey County FA but especially, Caroline McRoyall (Development Manager), Mark Walter (County Welfare Officer) and Ray Ward (County Secretary) for their support and guidance.”
Caroline McRoyall, County Development Manager for Surrey CFA added: “This is a great achievement for a league of this size; the league has a 3 year development plan in place to support the growth of league, provide training and development for coaches, referees and volunteers and provide support to ensure every club within the league reaches FA Charter Standard status”
Andrew Hailwood, National League Development Manager at the FA expressed his delight at the league achieving the award, ‘The Surrey Primary League is to date the largest league in the country to have achieved Charter Standard League status. My congratulations are extended to the league officials and the county FA Officers as well as the countless club volunteers who have achieved Charter Standard for the leagues constituent clubs’
