Workforce Award Winners

Football Workforce Awards 2008/09 All clubs and leagues in Surrey are invited to nominate a person to be considered by the Surrey County FA for a Surrey County Football Workforce Award.

These County Workforce Awards are designed to recognise when an extraordinary level of effort and hard-work has been put into the grassroots game by one individual.

Nadine Roberts – Abbey Rangers FC - Workforce County Winner Under 18's
· Nadine started playing in the 2003/04 season, where she represented Ottershaw Girls, winning a number of trophies and being awarded as team captain.
· Nadine began her coaching interest in the 2007/08 season where she assisted the club with the younger age groups.
· Nadine also showed a keen interest in refereeing; when she wasn’t coaching at Abbey Rangers she helped her school by refereeing the year 9 boys.
· Nadine was awarded Runneymede coach of the year for 2008. Since then, Nadine has attended the Surrey County FA young leader’s camp, where she was selected for a place on the national camp. She then went onto help as a volunteer at the Surrey Youth Games and will be a volunteer at Abbey Rangers Soccer Camp this summer.

Owyn Rees – Raynes Park Rovers FC - Workforce County Winner Under 25's
· Owyn started Raynes Park Rovers when he was just 18 years, now 22 Owyn takes the responsibilities of Secretary whilst coaching and playing.
· Owyn orchestrated an application to get Raynes Park Rovers to Charter Standard Status.
· Owyn is currently studying a Sport Development degree and undertaking an FA Level 3 coaching badge, whilst holding down a job as a community coach for Fulham FC.
· Owyn also volunteers at Alice Powell Saturday Club delivering football and a number of other sports to children with disabilities.

Tom Holder – Dynamo Molesey - Workforce County Winner
· Tom started Dynamo Molesey from scratch, with the club progressing to three teams for the start of next season.
· Thanks to Tom’s determination and drive the club was the first to achieve Charter Standard Status in Elmbridge, and are now working towards County Sports Partnership Accreditation for this summer.
· Tom is the Club Secretary, Club Manger player and is also on the enhanced promotion scheme in his role as a referee.
· Tom is also a qualified Level 1 coach.

Steve Cottingham – University of Surrey FC - Workforce County Winner
· Steve has been Club secretary of the University for Surrey for three years whilst studying as a mature student.
· Thanks to Steve and the hard work of the committee the club have recently been accepted into the Surrey Intermediate League.
· Steve has also helped the Club to achieve Charter Standard status.
· Although Steve doesn’t play for any of the clubs, the club has now expanded to 5 teams and a Futsal team, with Steve putting in countless hours of work in every week to help the 100+ players that have played for the club this season.
· In 2008 Steve was appointed as chairman of the University of Surrey Sports Committee.

John Hodkinson – Smallfield FC - Workforce County Winner
· John has served Smallfield for no fewer than 60 years, 57 years of these years has been as club secretary.
· John does everything from marking out the pitch to serving the bar, and he was instrumental in getting a new clubhouse built a few years back.
· John has also been spotted running the line this season for the opposition to avoid them picking up a fine.

Robert Woods – Sutton and District Football League - Workforce County Winner
· Robert has been associated with the Sutton and District Football League since the 1981/82 season when he was Club Secretary of Surrey Colts.
· Robert then joined the Sutton and District Football League management committee as fixtures secretary in the 1990/91 season.
· In the 2003/04 season Robert took over as General Secretary of the Sutton and District Football League.
· Due to a decline in Saturday Junior football, the league became a Vets only league, however this did not stop Robert from channelling his time and efforts into making the league as strong as possible, which has resulted in the league consisting of 18 teams across two divisions, with 2 cup competitions.
· Robert now holds the positions of General Secretary, Referees Secretary and Fixtures Secretary.

Mick Short – Morden and District Sunday Football League - Workforce County Winner
· Mick has been serving the Morden and District Sunday Football League for 42 years. In this time, he has provided football for both adults and youths.
· In 1967 Mick joined the committee of the Morden and District Sunday Football League as secretary of the accident fund, 7 years later he added the position of Registration secretary to his workload. He is still doing both of these jobs today.
· In 1980 Mick’s sons were playing football, so he teamed up with a number of other parents to form Culvers Youth FC. Mick is still involved with Culvers Sunday team as the Assistant Secretary along with his league duties.
