Many of the officer’s who form part of the Safer Neighbourhood Team will aim to use this football qualification as an engagement tool with young people in their community.
Safer Neighbourhoods Team spend most of their time out on patrol in your neighbourhood, meeting the community and identifying and dealing with those crimes and issues that cause you most concern.
Ian Williams, the Constables Representative from Kingston has been the driving force in organising this project and the Surrey County FA have been more than happy to support the Police with this venture.
Craig Hicks from the Surrey County FA explains, “I am delighted that a course has been designed to enable police officers to gain their Level 1 certificate in coaching football. It is our aim to establish safe and structured football within Surrey and this qualification will enable the officer’s to deliver football sessions within their community”. The course is taking place at Imber Court Sports Club in Molesey and will be completed on Friday 26th June.
The Surrey County FA will be working closely with the Safer Neighbourhoods Teams from both Kingston upon Thames and Sutton over the next 6 months to ensure the police officers can utilise this training to make a difference in the community.
