Surrey County FA FAMOA Event 2008

5:45 PM, Thursday, 20 November 08. Referees

The 2008 Surrey County FA FAMOA event was held at Sutton United FC on 13th November 2008 with nearly 100 referees in attendance. Vic Rolland, Chairman of SCFA Referees Committee, kicked off the evening by warmly welcoming everybody.

Caroline McRoyall (County Development Manager) presented the first half by outlining Surrey County FA’s four-year strategy. This included fascinating facts and figures culminating in a quiz on ‘How well do you know your County’ with particular reference to referees.

During the half time break there was plenty of activity consuming a wonderful buffet, renewing acquaintances or visiting the Referees Association stall where Brian and Angela Fish were selling kit and equipment.

Phil Sharp, FIFA Assistant Referee, kicked off the second half by speaking on his chosen topic ‘Improving your Lining’. His superb presentation included many learning points, advice and stories as he captivated the audience with his humour and modest manner. He accepted exhaustive questions from the audience answering all with candour and honesty. Tim Lawrence Surrey County FA Referee Development Officer gave the vote of thanks.

At full time, Ray Lewis, Chairman of Surrey County FA, closed the evening. He encouraged those starting off in their refereeing career to use Phil Sharp as a role model, as they strive to get to the top.

The success of the evening can be gauged from the feedback received so far. This has included…Phil is an inspirational speaker……..informative………an entertaining evening……..educational……it will help me with my lining………..the best FAMOA event so far.

There was a great buzz during the evening and those attending were already looking forward to the 2009 event.
