The young leaders received 3 days training, which included them completing the FA Junior Organiser course which gave them experience in coaching, officiating and event organisation.
Each volunteer had a task on the day, these included; officiating, running skills workshops, administrating of results/tables and being available for any general enquires that the competitors and spectators may have.
As well as the Young Leaders gaining the FA Junior Organiser qualification, they have all been registered on the FA Step into Sport Programme and furthermore 2 of the volunteers have registered to attend a Referee course this season.
Nathan Painter, Young leader said; “I loved it and the support from Active Surrey was incredibly helpful. I learnt several new skills, in which I highly recommend for anyone interested in Sport”.
Joseph Ballantine, Young Apprenticeship Manager of Icon Training said; “Icon Training, Active Surrey and Surrey County FA have teamed up to give all our learners a unique and accelerated course in developing their Sports Coaching and Leadership skills at the age of 14 - 16. Having all 28 young learners completing an FA Junior Football Organizer course and using those skills in a successfully organized Surrey Youth Games is a tremendous move forward in getting young people into sport”.

We would like to thank the Young Leaders for their dedication and efforts during the 3 weeks training and for making the 2008 Surrey Youth Games a successful event. The challenge ahead is to ensure that all of the Young Leaders continue there involvement at grassroots level with Charter Standard Clubs”.
The Proctor & Gamble Surrey Youth Games see’s 2,300 competitors from the eleven local authorities in Surrey gather in Guildford and Woking to compete in over 12 different sports. The Games took place on Saturday 21st June and Sunday 22nd June using Woking Leisure Centre, The Varsity Centre and Guildford Spectrum.
