The Association was formed in 1965 by prominent coaches of the day including Bobby Robson, Dario Gradi, Terry Venables, Alan Mullery and others. They formed and used the Association for their benefit, to gain a greater depth of knowledge from each other and use it in their coaching/managing roles.
This remains a key benefit to members of the Association to this day!
We are very proud of our heritage and maintain ties with the founder members through their holding of Vice President / President posts.
MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS
The SFCA continues to promote coach development in Surrey and the surrounding areas. Membership of the SFCA delivers the following benefits:
1) We meet at monthly free of charge organised practical coaching demonstrations. These are are led by a variety of professional coaches, to demonstrate a variety of sessions, ie from sessions for coaching young children, to sessions for coaching youth and senior players, to sessions for helping coaches progressing through the qualifications, to sessions bringing the latest on coaching from the FA.
Membership of the SFCA therefore delivers the opportunity for you to further your knowledge and learn new/different drills, games, sessions and coaching methods that you can take away and use or adapt in your own coaching environment.
2) These demonstrations will obviously also provide support to a coaches personal development, including coaches who are progressing through the levels of coaching qualifications. Each session is supported by a certificate of attendance and when possible session notes supplied by the lead coaches.
3) We also provide email notification to members regarding forthcoming football coaching & football related courses and we also provide support to members regarding football coaching courses they are enrolled on.
4) We regularly receive requests from clubs and organisations seeking coaches, which we pass onto our membership via email. All work found through this route is independent of the SFCA.
5) We work in partnership with Surrey County FA which brings mutual benefits. For members of the SFCA this has included advance information on coaching courses, discounted group tickets for England B & Youth Internationals and exclusive coaching resource.
We have members at all coaching levels, from Level 1 to 'A' licence and we believe the SFCA offers a valuable and variable service to new and existing coaches in Surrey and the surrounding area for coaching opportunities, coaching involvement and coach development.
We will send you regular emails detailing where the forthcoming sessions are and the names and topics of the coaches who will be leading them, plus much more, eg SFCA news, details and updates of Surrey FA coaching courses, other counties coaching demonstration opportunities (see below), etc.
LINKS TO OTHER COUNTY COACHES ASSOCIATIONS
The SFCA have established links with the Coaches Associations of Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Kent, London, Middlesex, Sussex and the Army, with other counties to follow, where we have a reciprocal arrangement with each of them for members to attend each others sessions.
Details of their sessions are passed onto our membership via bespoke emails and we are delighted to be able to forward invitations for Surrey Football Coaches Association members to all these County’s sessions. We look forward to continuing to be part of this wider coaching community.
MEMBERSHIP
Membership is just £15 a year, for Students aged 16-21 an Introductory Membership is available at £5.
We also have a starter pack, (ie first year membership plus a SFCA polo shirt, rainjacket or sweatshirt), which is popular as many members want to wear SFCA branded clothing when coaching (see membership form for details).
We are endorsed by all the Surrey FA course tutors, the Surrey County FA, the Surrey County FA Football Development Committee, Caroline McRoyall (Surrey County FA County Development Manager) and all of the Football Development Department.
