Ability Counts is a nationwide programme that has been developed by the Football Association to ensure that disabled people have opportunities to play football at a local, competitive level. The FA are fully committed to supporting the development of disability football and it is hoped that this will be the catalyst for more local opportunities for disabled footballers to play the game and develop their skills.
The Surrey tournament, organised by the Football+ programme (a partnership between the Limbless Association and Chelsea FITC), attracted 20 teams from across the South of England to play in an adult and under-16s competition.
Chelsea Community's adults won the League section, at the cost of Warwickshire Warriors; and in the Championship, Shepway Wanderers beat Brighton and Hove Albion to first place. The under-16s Championship winners were Fulham Deaf, narrowly beating local rivals Chelsea Community; and the under-16s League Competition was won by Feltham Bees, with MK Dons finishing runners-up.
All participants received a medal and an LA badge, with the winners and runners-up of each group being awarded cups by Ray Edwards
(LA's Deputy Chief Executive Officer & DSC Co-ordinator).
Many thanks to all who supported the festival. We hope you had a thoroughly enjoyable day.
The Limbless Association and Chelsea FC will be hosting three more Football+ Tournaments this year, for championship and league level teams, all at Feltham Community College on:
Sunday 17th June - (Under 18s and under 12s)
