Mayford Athletic FC was founded in 1968 and operates youth football teams for all age groups from 6 years old to 17 years old.
Mayford Athletic FC have 21 teams with over 300 boys and girls playing each week for the club in the Surrey Primary League.
The FA Charter Standard programme, supported by FA partner McDonald’s, was established six years ago and helps clubs to improve standards of coaching, administration, player development and Safeguarding Children.
The FA Charter Standard award is presented to those clubs like Mayford Athletic who have raised their standards in these areas and lead the field in promoting best football practice, both on and off the pitch in grassroots football.
The presentation recently took place at the Surrey Primary League end of year festival at Mayford Training ground, and was awarded by Surrey County FA Football Development Officer Steven Edwards.
Mick Davis, Mayford’s Charter Standard co-ordinator said: “The FA Charter Standard award results from the vision and concerted effort by the club’s executive committee, coaches and other volunteers within Mayford Athletic FC. As a club we now have 45 coaches who are qualified to FA Level 1 Coaching standards with there now being a minimum of at least one Level 1 coach per team. The club has recently instigated a new strategy for further enhancing the quality of coaching in the club by involving a professional coach to work with Mayford’s coaches during the forthcoming season. Plans are also underway for a new 3G pitch to be installed at the Mayford Athletic FC grounds. The ultimate aim is for the club to next progress to Development status and ultimately a Community Club status.“
