Surrey FA - developing football for everyone
Development - take your skills to the next level

The FA Skills Schools Programme

The FA Tesco Skills Programme works in over 1,000 primary schools a year, providing specialist football skills coaching for children and their teachers. Our coaches will typically work with a primary school in their county one day a week for the duration of half a term, providing specialist, age appropriate coaching for all ages from Years 1 to 6. The Programme’s revolutionary approach to coaching football skills is truly child-centred, is for all ability levels, and focuses on individual boys’ and girls' learning needs.

As well as helping to develop the technique, ball skills and confidence of children in primary schools, The FA Tesco Skills coaches aim to pass on invaluable lesson ideas and guidance on football coaching to their teachers. Extra support and ideas can be found on http://edit.tescoskills.thefa.com

The Surrey FA Skills Team work alongside Partnership Development Managers (PDM’s) from the School Sports Partnerships of:

Bishop Wand SSP and North West Surrey SSP - email kobina.elliott@theFA.com for more details.

If you would like to register and interest in the teacher CPD then please contact your PDM or alternatively contact the relevant coach above.

Skills coaching after the Programme

"Teachers make great youth football coaches because they understand how children learn."

- Les Howie, FA Head of Grassroots Coaching

Children may know a lot about football – the weekend scores and their favourite players – but whether you follow football or not, teachers know how to help young people learn. We aim to provide support for all the teachers who take part in The FA Tesco Skills Programme, working with our coaches to teach their primary school classes football skills, teamwork and confidence. Our Skills videos include ideas for drills and games for individual children and whole classes. There are challenges of different difficulties which you can match to the needs and abilities of your class. Please visit http://edit.tescoskills.thefa.com to access our coaching support tools.
