Brian started refereeing way back in 1973 and was promoted to class 2 (Level 6) in 1977 and class 1 (Level 5) in 1978. He progressed via the Surrey Intermediate (Western), Surrey Senior (now Combined Counties) and the Isthmian League to the National List of Match Officials in 1991, and has been appointed to two League Cup semi-finals (line), two quarter-finals (line) and one FA Cup 5th Round tie (line).
Brian was an Assistant Referee on the Auto-Windscreen final at Wembley in 1996 between Shrewsbury Town and Rotherham United and the 1996 Anglo-Italian Cup quarter-final between Cesena and Port Vale in Italy, while he also refereed the Isthmian League Cup Final in 1995.
