The Surrey County F.A. was formed in 1877 playing representative games against Kent, Middlesex etc.
At a meeting in Guildford on 16 March 1882 it was reorganised and voted to affiliate to the Football Association and at the same time a County Senior Cup competition. was introduced. The ten clubs present at the meeting were Clapham Rovers, Dorking, East Sheen, Esher, Farnham Guildford, Reigate Priory, St. Thomas's Hospital, Surbiton and Barnes.
The first winners of the Surrey Senior Cup were Reigate Priory who were victorious six times before the end of the century.Other successfull teams in the early days were Guys Hospital, Weybridge, West Croydon and Townley Park. Dulwich Hamlet first won in 1904 - 05 and hold the record with sixteen victories, Sutton United have thirteen.
A Junior Cup was introduced in 1886 - 87, a Senior Charity Shield in 1895 - 96 and a Surrey Junior League in 1898 - 99. A Surrey Senior League did not begin until 1922 - 23 when 11 clubs were invited into the league - Aldershot Institute Albion, Camberley & Yorktown, Carshalton Athletic, Dorking,Egham, Farnham United Breweries, Hersham, Leyland Motors, Merton Town, RAE (Farnborough) and Walton on Thames. Egham did the league/charity cup double in the first season, while other current clubs who found early success and so progressed up the amateur / non league ladder were Leatherhead, Banstead Athletic, Chertsey Town, Dorking and Farnham Town who all won the Championship at least three times. The League was renamed Home Counties League in 1978 -79 and Combined Counties League a year later, as its geographical area spread further afield.. Epsom & Ewell were champions in 1974 -75 when they reached the inaugural FA Vase Final at Wembley Stadium.
The Surrey Invitation Cup began in 1958 - 59 but ended in 1967 while the Senior Shield finished in 1977; Woking and Carshalton Athletic being the respective last winners. Most recent winners of the Surrey Senior Cup are
