Les' life away from football was spent in the Metropolitan Police, retiring in 1999 after 30 years of service, the last 3 of which were spent as an instructor at the Dog Training establishment. He is now employed as a security advisor AW Champion timber merchants, dealing with all aspects of security in the nine branches.
In 1981 Les began his love affair with the Surrey County FA, becoming a registered referee attaining the old Class 1 status (now Level 5). Throughout the 1980s and 1990s he was involved in many aspect of football within the County, specifically the Epsom and Ewell Youth League and the Surrey Premier League, holding positions such as Chairman, Secretary and Referees Secretary.
At the turn of the millennium Les was involved in the formation of the League Representative Committee, and was subsequently elected Chairman until standing down to become Secretary of Division 1 in 2001. Les also went to hold positions within the Combined Counties Football League.
2006 saw Les become Director of the Surrey County FA, and later Chairman in 2010, while he is the Board member responsible for Equality.
